I qualified from the University of Manchester gaining a dental degree in 2008. With a passion for further learning and training, I successfully completed the advanced certificate in facilitating learning in healthcare practice from the University of Central Lancashire in 2010. I then sat further exams, which gained me membership to the Faculty of Dental Surgery (MFDS) with The Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh in 2012.

I developed a strong interest in orthodontics and very much enjoy carrying out this treatment for patients of all ages. This naturally led me to start orthodontic training in 2016 and passing the Membership in Orthodontics exam (MOrth) three years later with The Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh. I carried on learning and undertook further training to provide aesthetic orthodontic treatment with clear aligners, composite bonding and advanced tooth whitening.

I am passionate about giving all my patients the best possible experience and standard of care when they come to see me. I enjoy finding out more about my patients' stories so I can get to know them as individuals. So many dental patients have had bad experiences in the past that they then carry with them. I am committed to helping these patients regain their confidence to enable them to receive the treatment they may want or need to improve both their smile and their dental health and general wellbeing.

I am absolutely delighted to be part of such an amazing team here at Macfarlane Dental Partnership.

Richard Wilson

Dentist & Oral Surgeon

GDC 258295

I qualified as a Dentist from the University of Manchester and, following a year working in a dental practice in South Manchester, began my time at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust. I have been working at Royal Blackburn and Burnley General Hospitals in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery on a full time basis since 2016. Within my role I carry out a wide range of surgical procedures under local and general anaesthetic - from routine dental extractions, to the repair of facial trauma such as broken jaws and cheek bones.

I have been placing dental implants in the hospital setting for a number of years, often for patients who require complex bone grafting and extensive rehabilitation.

Our therapists

We employ two dental therapists – Karen Boulton & Katie Holt who are trained in all aspects of dental care, including scaling and polishing teeth and the use of ‘Airflow’.

Katie Holt

Dental Therapist

I qualified from Liverpool dental university in 2012 with a diploma in dental hygiene and therapy. I enjoy all aspects of my role and I am always keen to enhance my skills. I find periodontal treatment rewarding. I work closely with patients to motivate them in the care of their teeth and gums. Helping to implement home care to maintain their oral health. I am also able to provide simple restorative treatment, especially in children providing fillings and preventative care.

I was a dental nurse tutor/assessor for 3 years which I enjoyed.

Dental Therapist

I qualified as a dental hygiene dental therapist in 2008, after working as a dental nurse from 1998. Working as a dental nurse for 10 years gave me much opportunity to work in lots of different areas of dentistry, such as NHS, private, cosmetic and oral surgery, which I thoroughly enjoyed. This experience gave me the encouragement to continue my dental career and retrain as a dental hygienist dental therapist.

I qualified from Liverpool Dental Hospital in 2008. I enjoy working in a team to help provide individual dental care to patients. I understand dental treatment can be a stressful and nervous setting for some patients, and I am happy to help settle nerves and create a friendly environment while treating patients.
